JUST TO BE SURE: MATH PROJECT

Hello Students,

Some of you have complained that the information of the Project is hard to read in the format that is shown. I checked it and it is legible but to avoid any excuses here you find the text of this project:

FIRST PERIOD MATHEMATICS ASSIGNMENT

GOALS

1. To apply the knowledge about the metric system and other systems of measurement in a real-life type situation.
2. To apply the knowledge about perimeters and areas of simple and complex geometric figures.
3. To communicate in an effective manner the skills learned during this period.
4. To use technology to communicate the skills learned during this period using the appropriate mathematical language.

DESCRIPTION OF THE ASSIGNMENT

The final product of this assignment is a Microsoft Power Point presentation that includes the following:

1. Some pictures of the exterior and interior of the house or building selected for this assignment.
2. A blueprint of the first floor of the house or building selected. This blueprint can be done by hand and then scanned in an electronic media or using any specialized software. The blueprint must show all the measurements of the first floor of the house or building in meters.
3. A calculation of the perimeter of the first floor of the house or building. The answer must be provided first in meters and finally in feet or inches. All calculations for these conversions must be shown in the presentation.
4. A calculation of the total area of first floor of the house or building. The final answer must be reached after calculating all the areas that are part of the total area. The answer must be provided first in squared meters and centimeters and finally in squared feet and inches. All calculations for these conversions must be shown in the presentation.
5. A calculation of the space occupied (volume) of the first floor of the house or building in cubic meters. For this answer you must measure not only the area of the floor but its height.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

1. Try to do your calculations using formulas in Microsoft Excel. If you include these electronic worksheets along with the Microsoft Power Point presentation, you will have better chances of getting a higher grade.
2. Check your spelling and grammar. The fewer mistakes you have the better you grade.
3. The more details you include in your presentation the better chances you will have of getting a good grade.
4. Round all your final answers to the nearest hundredth.
5. Don’t forget to include a slide of presentation with your name, the title of the assignment, the date and the teacher’s name.
6. All the files must be sent to the following e-mail address before the due date:

raul.hernandez@laarboleda.edu.co

DUE DATE: Friday, September 25th of 2009.
